Austria is the destination where language works in your favour twice. Hall regulations, organiser briefings and the security staff at the loading gate all speak German, and so does our crew. If your team is international, we switch to English for the briefing and to Arabic or Persian for interviews, and subtitle the result for whichever market you sell to.
Vienna is about an hour and a half by air from Düsseldorf, and Messe Wien is on the U2 line, fifteen minutes from the centre. Salzburg is an hour and a half by train from Munich, Linz a little over an hour from Vienna, Graz two and a half. For a single day in Vienna we fly in the evening before; for two or three days in Salzburg or Linz we often drive, which turns travel and hotel into a small share of the total, quoted once per trip and shared with other exhibitors of the same week.
Austrian companies with a UID number receive a reverse-charge invoice without German VAT, as do all EU companies with a VAT ID; exhibitors from outside the EU are invoiced net. The packages are €990, €1,490 and €1,990 plus VAT, the same as in Germany, so the stand (booth) in Vienna matches the one in Munich in every catalogue and post.
Messe Wien stands next to the Prater in the second district, with the U2 station Messe-Prater at its door and the Congress Center in the same complex. It is the largest venue in Austria and hosts the Ferien-Messe in January, Wohnen & Interieur in March, Vienna Comic Con in November and a heavy programme of medical and scientific congresses whose exhibition floors work like a trade fair. The halls are tall and daylight-free, so we bring our own light for the empty-stand pictures.
Messezentrum Salzburg lies in the west of the city, a few minutes from the airport and the A1, with the Salzburgarena attached. Alles für den Gast, the hospitality show for the Alpine region, fills it every November. Messe Graz in the south-east of the city opens the year with the Häuslbauermesse in January and closes the season with the Grazer Herbstmesse.
The Design Center Linz on Europaplatz is a single glass-roofed hall in the city centre, used for congresses, product launches and compact exhibitions; its even daylight suits interviews and product shots without a set. Photo rules at all four venues match the German ones: your own stand, staff and products are free to photograph, visitors in close-up are asked first.
