Messe Essen sits in Rüttenscheid in the south of the city, right next to the Grugahalle. The site plan shows Halls 1 and 1A plus 2 to 8, linked by the Galeria, the central axis that opens up several halls. There are also three congress centres, South, West and East, and the Grugahalle as a multi-purpose hall; according to the venue, around 20,000 m² of outdoor space add to the halls. Because everything is close together, appointments in different halls combine easily within one morning.
The entrances map neatly onto the halls: the East entrance leads to Hall 8 and car park P1, the West entrance to Hall 3 and car park P6, the South entrance to Halls 1 and 1A, the North entrance to Hall 5 and the Central entrance to Halls 6 and 7. Congress Center South sits by Halls 1 and 1A, Congress Center West by Hall 3 and Congress Center East by Hall 8. For a shoot this is convenient, because meeting point and route almost plan themselves.
For short interviews away from the stand, quieter spots in the Galeria or by the congress centres can work, depending on how your show uses them; we check on site in the morning. Inside the halls light is artificial and varies from stand to stand; we bring our own light and check your stand before the first frame.
From Essen Hauptbahnhof, U-Bahn line U11 takes visitors to the Messe Ost/Grugahalle and Messe West/Messe Süd stops in a few minutes. According to the venue, Düsseldorf Airport is around 20 minutes away, and Messe Essen runs its own info counter in Terminal B there, a useful first stop for teams flying in. By car the grounds are reached via the A52, exits Essen-Rüttenscheid, Essen-Haarzopf and Essen-Kettwig, and car parks P1 to P10.
For us travel is not an issue: our office is at Messeallee 26, 30 seconds from the entrance. We are on your stand before the doors open, fetch a spare battery or an extra lens in moments and come back for a short block during multi-day shows without any travel cost. If a press meeting or an important customer turns up in the afternoon, we are back quickly.
The Messe Essen house and usage regulations are clear: commercial photography, filming and audio or video recording, especially of stands and exhibits, is prohibited on the grounds; exceptions require the written permission of Messe Essen GmbH. Before the show, please check in your exhibitor documents how permission for filming on your stand (booth) is granted. We give you names, days and scope for the request. We do not deliberately shoot neighbouring stands, and recognisable visitors only with consent. During the show our crew needs exhibitor passes or tickets.
Clean stand shots happen before the doors open, while the aisles are empty: overviews from several angles, product details, graphics and the team photo. After that we follow conversations, demos and visitors without interrupting your meetings. At multi-day shows we do not repeat the empty-stand shots but use the second morning for details that were missing on day one.
The Essen shows are very different from each other. At Security Essen exhibitors show security technology that is not always meant to be public in every detail; we agree in advance which devices, screens and customers may appear. SPIEL is about full game tables, hands on game pieces and author signings, which calls for close-ups rather than wide shots. At Essen Motor Show paint and chrome reflect everything, so we use a polarising filter and low angles. IPM ESSEN is the most colourful show of the year, and plants and flowers need neutral colour without a cast. At EQUITANA we photograph horses without flash and with calm movements.
Many Essen shows run a conference or talk programme in the congress centres. If someone from your company speaks there or sits on a panel, we cover both on the same day: the stand in the morning, the talk with camera and separate sound, then portraits of the speaker and conversations on the stand. From the talk we cut short subtitled clips, which travel further on LinkedIn than a full recording.
Interviews are recorded on your stand with a lavalier microphone and our own light. Our editors cut the 30-second highlight video and the vertical clips in parallel so you can post during the show. Because our office is so close, we back up the footage at lunchtime and in the evening, and editing starts while you are still on the stand.
The Essen season opens in September with Security Essen. SPIEL follows in October, Essen Motor Show at the end of November. January brings Baumesse Essen and IPM ESSEN, February E-world energy & water, Reise + Camping and Fahrrad Essen. EQUITANA follows in March 2027, European Bridal Week in April and TANKSTELLE & MITTELSTAND in June.
Many Essen shows mix trade visitors and consumers. SPIEL, Essen Motor Show, Reise + Camping and EQUITANA draw large crowds at weekends, while E-world and Security Essen are trade-only, with many meetings and talks. On consumer days an early block before admission pays off; at trade shows the morning works best, when decision-makers are on the stand.
Because we are on site, Messe Essen suits short, flexible bookings: two hours on the first day for stand and team, another block the next day for interviews or a talk. International exhibitors get interviews and subtitles in English, Arabic or Farsi. Companies outside the EU are invoiced without German VAT; EU companies with a VAT ID receive a reverse-charge invoice. There are no travel costs in Essen.
