At Koelnmesse, five things decide which trade fair photographer to book: experience with Cologne's trade and public shows, delivery within 24 hours, a fixed price, clear usage rights and the written permit Koelnmesse requires for commercial shoots.
All prices plus VAT · delivered within 24 hours · See all packages & details
For Koelnmesse, choose a trade fair photographer who knows the venue's permit requirement for commercial photography and prepares it with you, has worked Cologne shows before, and delivers photos and video within 24 hours. Add a written fixed price, unlimited usage rights and a crew that can run the brief and interviews in English.
Cologne is a special case. The question is not only how good the images are, but whether the photographer works with a permit at all. Settle that before you book, not at the hall entrance.
Use this to make quotes comparable. Ask for written answers in the quote.
| Criterion | Why it matters | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Permit | Koelnmesse requires prior written permission for commercial photography, filming and video. | "Which details do you need from us for the application, and by when?" |
| Experience with Cologne shows | gamescom or FIBO need different images from ORGATEC or IDS. | "Which Koelnmesse shows have you covered?" |
| Timing on the day | At public shows, empty aisles exist only before opening and in the last half hour. | "When will you arrive, and what does the schedule look like?" |
| Delivery time | If you post during the show, you need images from the same day. | "Will we get a first selection on the show day itself?" |
| Fixed price | Only a total that includes editing, video and travel can be compared with other quotes. | "What exactly is included, and what costs extra?" |
| Other stands and products | Other stands, products and people need the written consent of the rights holders. | "How do you keep other stands out of our images?" |
| Language | At Anuga, ISM and IDS, many exhibitors come from outside Germany. | "Can you run interviews in English and deliver subtitles?" |
| Sound in loud halls | An interview recorded with a camera microphone next to a stage show is rarely usable. | "Which microphones do you use for interviews?" |
Koelnmesse has 11 halls and a programme that runs from furniture and interiors to large public events. Coming up are ORGATEC (27–30 October 2026), imm cologne (19–22 January 2027), ISM (31 January – 3 February 2027) and IDS (16–20 March 2027). Several Cologne shows, including ORGATEC, interzum and Anuga, run every two years, so the images from one edition have to last until the next.
Koelnmesse's house and ground regulations (September 2020) require prior written permission from Koelnmesse for commercial photography, filming and video. Recording other stands, products or people also needs the written permission of the rights holders. As an exhibitor, plan the application a few days before the show and ask your photographer for the details it needs. Check your show's exhibitor manual as well.
When you send your stand number, include the hall and the level, because the level decides which entrance and route make sense. Our office in Essen is about 60 minutes from Koelnmesse. More on halls and typical shots is on our Koelnmesse venue page.
Whether a quote is good value only becomes clear when everything is in it. Many freelance photographers bill by the hour, with editing, video, travel or advertising rights charged separately. Others work with packages that fix time on the stand, number of images, video and delivery time. Both are legitimate; what matters is that the invoice after the show matches your budget.
One option is Pixer's fixed pricing: €990 for two hours, €1,490 for four hours or €1,990 for a full show day, plus VAT, with travel to Cologne included. At public shows like FIBO or gamescom the longer block often pays off, because clean stand shots before opening and atmosphere at peak time need to fit into one booking. Plan your overall budget with the trade fair budget calculator.
Pixer GmbH is a photo and video studio from Essen, Germany, specialising in trade fair photography and video for exhibitors across Germany. At Koelnmesse we send you the details for your photo permit after your enquiry, arrive at your stand (booth) before the doors open and deliver photos, a 30-second highlight video and vertical clips within 24 hours of the show day ending. Interviews are recorded with clip-on microphones, even in loud halls.
