Messe München is in Riem in the east of Munich, directly on the A94 motorway, on the site of the former Munich-Riem airport, where it moved in 1998. The grounds have 18 ground-level halls in three rows: A1 to A6, B0 to B6 and C1 to C6. All halls are column-free with clear heights between 11 and 16 metres, and large glazed areas let daylight in. For photo and video that is an advantage and a task at the same time: stands look open and natural in the morning, but the colour of the light shifts during the day. We set white balance for each shooting block and match every image in the edit.
Visitors enter through Entrance West, Entrance East or the North entrances. The ICM, the International Congress Center Munich, and the Conference Center Nord (CCN), which is used together with Hall C6 as an event venue, belong to the same site. Many exhibitors combine their stand with a talk, a panel or a press conference in one of these rooms.
Distances on the grounds are long. Getting from a stand in the A row to an appointment in the C row takes a while. If you have a stand plus a talk in the ICM, or two stands in different halls, we plan the day in fixed time slots instead of running between them. Send us hall and stand number with your request and the route is set in advance.
The U2 underground line stops at Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost, at Entrance West and Entrance East. Messe München gives just under 20 minutes from Munich Central Station without a change. From Munich Airport the S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 run into the city, and for selected shows an airport shuttle runs to the grounds with a one-way trip of about 45 minutes. By car, the A94 exits Feldkirchen-West and München-Riem lead to the car parks, including Parkhaus West.
We work with compact kit: two camera bodies, lenses, a gimbal, lavalier microphones and LED lights fit into rolling cases and go through the entrance like normal luggage. On a normal show day we do not need a vehicle pass. Our crew enters on exhibitor passes you assign to us; during visitor opening hours Messe München also accepts day tickets or visitor vouchers.
For exhibitors flying in from abroad this keeps it simple: you arrive, set up, and we meet you at the stand before opening. On the venue side you only organise the passes. Travel from Essen is quoted once per trip and shared between exhibitors of the same show week. Companies from outside the EU are invoiced without German VAT, and the edited photos reach you before your flight home, so your head office can post while the show is still on.
Messe München publishes an information sheet on photo and film permits. During the exhibitor opening hours, photography and filming by an exhibitor, or by a crew the exhibitor commissioned, are allowed on the exhibitor's own stand area without a separate permit. The work may not spread into the aisles and block visitor flow. Shooting is also allowed during the official build-up and dismantling times, when the aisles may be used as long as nobody is obstructed.
Outside those times, during the night closing hours, a permit from the Security Center near Gate 1 is required. It is open around the clock and the permit is only issued in person. A commissioned photographer shows a written order from the exhibitor, a flat fee is charged per exhibitor or order, and an escort guard has to be booked through the exhibitor shop. Only your own stand and exhibits may be photographed; other stands may not be entered or filmed. Drones are prohibited on the whole site, in the halls and outdoors, at all times. The exhibitor is the data controller for the recordings under the GDPR.
In practice we plan the day so that no night permit is needed: stand shots on the build-up day and in exhibitor hours before visitors arrive, people and demos during the day. If you want the empty stand after closing, we explain beforehand what the permit and escort involve so you can decide.
The calendar mixes very large technology shows with specialist fairs. EXPO REAL in October is a property and investment show where meetings and panels matter more than products. electronica and SEMICON Europa in November are about components and demos at close range. At BAU in January, architecture and building materials fill large stands, and wide shots plus material details carry the story.
In spring come INHORGENTA and opti, where jewellery and eyewear need macro work and controlled reflections, then IHM, transport logistic with air cargo Europe, and in June Intersolar Europe with ees Europe and automatica with LASER World of PHOTONICS. IAA MOBILITY returns in September 2027, productronica in November 2027. At machinery shows video takes a larger share, because movement explains a product better than a still.
A typical day on the Riem grounds looks like this: in exhibitor hours before visitors are let in, we shoot stand overviews, the team photo and product details in calm light. From late morning, when the halls fill up, we move to conversations, demos and visitors on the stand. Around midday, when the stand is quieter, we record interviews. In the evening the first selection goes to you, the rest follows within 24 hours.
In the big show weeks accommodation in Munich needs early planning. If you ask early, we book the crew's stay in time and include the travel share in your fixed quote.
